My favorite show on The Food Network is Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger. It seems to be the only Food Network show focused on meals for health-minded home cooks. Ellie is a registered dietitian and author of a cookbook called "The Food You Crave," which I love. Her meals are both beautiful and delicious. It's a book I keep coming back to again and again when I am in the kitchen.
It's not a restaurant - but it's a great butcher shop and retail store if you are having people over for the Super Bowl and have some last-minute shopping to do (or if you just want to cook for yourself). It's open Sunday (and every Tues-Sun) from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. el Salchichero recommends any or all of these items for Super Bowl treats: beer bacon, blood orange marinated braised chicken, grass fed steaks, sausages for sandwiches or appetizers, cured meats for a charcuterie plate, Yucatan flat iron, and Mad Marge's meatballs. If you're in Live Oak and need last-minute Super Bowl meats, el Salchicero will be at the Live Oak Farmers Market from from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
She would make her own spaghetti sauce from scratch from what she grew in her garden. If you have a garden, take advantage of canning your foods! If you have to stretch a canned spaghetti sauce, a cheap can of stewed tomatoes can stretch it nicely. My mother always made her own salad dressings, and usually this was the cheapest way to go. She'd buy the generic mayonnaise and got a lot more product for her buck. A few items are nice conveniences, such as canned chicken broth, but I simply use chicken bouillon instead because it is so much cheaper!! When I buy my juice, I always watch for sales on frozen concentrates, these are much less expensive than buying the bottled juices, and there is much less waste in my garbage!
A coq au vin slow cooker nz recipe is a classic. People have illusions that this red wine chicken dish is difficult to achieve but nothing could simpler. But better still, you can make double of this recipe, add a pastry topping, and you have a sumptuous Chicken Pie. Alternatively, you could add leftovers to some pasta shapes and you have a simple Chicken Pasta Bake.
To coq au vin slow cooker serve divide the spaghetti into four servings. Top each serving with a chicken breast and a fourth of the sauce. Sprinkle with the grated Parmesan cheese.
Spices have become extremely expensive, but I almost always buy the majority of spices in my grocers health food section. These spices are sold by the pound, and even though they sound expensive, they are incredibly cheap! The last time I purchased bay leaves, I compared prices. A small bottle of bay leaves from the spice section of my store retailed for $3.99. I purchased an entire bag of bay leaves (they are feather light), and paid 25 cents!! I save my old spice bottles and refill them with the spices that I buy in bulk, by the pound. Not only are these spices cheaper, they are usually fresher. My bay leaves look green and fresh, while the bottled bay leaves looked a bit dried out and light green and even brownish in color.
